Elon Musk Selling Tesla Merchandise in Exchange for Dogecoin

‘Tesla merch buyable with Dogecoin’ – is the tweet that broke the internet this January, the 14th! Tweeted early Friday morning by CEO Elon Musk, the post announced one of the biggest news in the crypto world this 2022 which is about to affect the entire digital money purchases, including crypto gambling! Tesla has officially started selling some of its merchandise in exchange for the digital meme-crypto DOGE. That exciting news significantly increased the market value of Dogecoin by 16% in less than 24 hours, which is a breaking record!

The possibility of Tesla working with Dogecoin has been suggested by Elon Musk, himself, through the last months of 2021, teasing plenty of fans of the brand. However, Dogecoin products being sold by Tesla was under a big question of ever becoming reality, due to the unsuccessful partnership of the company with Bitcoin that was drawn to a close after no more than a month and several days.

Elon was always skeptical about the use of crypto blockchain systems as a way of handling digital payments because of their huge negative impact on the environment. Despite those beliefs, Tesla started accepting Bitcoin for car purchases a couple of months back but because of the intense use of fossil fuels on Bitcoin mining, the project was shut down.

‘Cryptocurrency is a good idea on many levels and we believe it has a promising future, but this cannot come at great cost to the environment’ – said Elon.

Although, not a fan of cryptos, Elon Musk was always more fond of Dogecoin because of it being much cleaner and friendly to the environment, often referring to it as ‘the people’s crypto’. He has even invested in it personally and has started working with Dogecoin into improving the cryptosystem further in the future.

‘Even though it was created as a silly joke, dogecoin is actually better suited for transactions’ he said in an interview for Time magazine. In May 2021, Elon launched a poll asking Tesla fans whether the company shall start selling with Dogecoin. Almost 80% were in favor of the idea, and hundreds of excited comments started rolling.

As of 19th of Jan., Tesla offers some DOGE merchandise, including the Cyberquad for Kids,  the Giga Texas Belt Buckle, the ‘S3XY’ mug exclusively for the UK, and the premium Cyberwhistle. Billy Markus, co-creator of Dogecoin, posted an image of the amazing Cyberwhistle for a price of 300 DOGE. Elon said he wants to launch DOGE to the Moon, sending a satellite in space by SpaceX named ‘DOGE-1’.

Tesla shot up the price of Dogecoin by up to 16% over only 24 hours, significantly increasing its market value. Ranking it as the 11th largest cryptocurrency on the global crypto cap. Currently, DOGE has a price of price $0.1643, around $352,083,198 volume, and $21,798,208,360 market cap.
